Ride Historic Silver City

  • 10 Oct 2009
  • 10:00 AM
  • Diamond Basin Meeting for Start of Ride
Details as follows: Ride Silver City History Ride - October 10, 2009 Silver City was one of the first cities in Idaho and is rich in history and great stories.

The ride is hosted by Mark Bowen, Greg Walker, and Steve Perhac who have researched and studied the history of this old mining town and lead you on a ride that tells the history of the area, the mines, the times, and the people.  This is tough country and the ride length and difficulty depend on the crowd but it should be noted that this is not a beginner ride.  Ride length for a full tour is typically in the 75 to 80 mile range and there are no gas stations so pack gas if you need to.  Terrain is some single track but mostly old jeep trail that is very rocky and rutted.  Ride is recommended for intermediate and above riders.  Conditions look like they may be cold with morning temperatures just above 40 and daytime highs in the mid 50's.  We have experienced snow on this ride in the past so be prepared.  We will stop at Flint for lunch so plan on packing a lunch with you as we will not be stopping at the Idaho Hotel for lunch.

Start Time: 10:00 AM Location: Diamond Basin Difficulty: Intermediate and above Length: 75 to 80 miles Lunch: None - pack it with you Directions: Head South on Hwy 45 out of Nampa.  Just after you cross the Snake River at Walters Ferry you will come to the junction of Hwy 78.  Bear left on Hwy 78 toward Murphy / Grand View.  Follow 78 to the road to Silver City which is a right turn about 4.5 miles past Murphy.  Follow the Silver City road about 6 miles until it makes a hard left with a dirt road to the right.  Turn right on the dirt road (old stagecoach road to Silver City) and turn left at the first major junction (about 0.3 miles).  Follow road to the top of the hill and you are at Diamond Basin. Hope to see you there, Walker/Bowen/Perhac
